Fill Number Two

Got my second fill today and you aren't going to believe how much they gave me!  Ready?  Wait for it...A WHOLE 0.4 CCs!!  Sweet Baby Jesus, was I disappointed.  I thought for sure I would at the very least get one whole cc bringing me to 2 ccs in total.  Nope.  So this was my experience (would love if other bandsters would chime in and let me know if this is typically how their fills go):

Water - ready to drink!

This is my "fill room"!

First, let me start off by saying that I apparently had 2 ccs in my band when I was originally banded (I had thought it was completely empty) - the nurse confirmed this when I asked again if I only had 1 cc put in during my last fill.  She said "they took 2 out and put 1 in".  Glad to know I am so on top of the fluids going into my body.

Anyway, the PA came in and found my port quite easily enough and removed the 1 cc I had in there and put in 3 ccs.  Then I drank the water and she asked if I could "feel the water trying to bubble back up in my esophagus"...???  I sort of could (I guess).  So she removed some saline.  Then I drank again.  I told her this time the water went down easier.  She told me she was going to take a bit more out since food is harder to get down than water.  And that's how I ended up with a whopping 1.4 ccs TOTAL in my band.  She did say I could come back in 3 weeks instead of 4 if I didn't feel good restriction.  So we shall see.  Today is back to liquids so the real test will come later this week.

Here's hoping to some good restriction!

  1. My second fill was my last one (so far) and I have lost all my extra weight. It is hard to judge how much .4 can do.

  2. My first fill was 1.7 cc's and then I had another 1 cc added, bringing me to 2.7 cc's. I was fine for a few weeks and then I had to get .4 cc's removed because it was too much. So most of the time I've been at 2.3 cc's which was PERFECT for me! At that level I could eat and drink all foods, but my portion sizes stayed small.

  3. I have never really known how much I have in there. :) But I usually have gurgling issues the first couple of days, but it seems to level out. Hope you get some restriction! But if not, you can go back...that's good!

  4. Honestly, I have NO idea how much is in my band or even what size my band is. So I'm not much help there. But my doc takes the fluid out to make sure there's no leak and then refills until he gets soem push back and then lets just a little out (real scientific, eh?). Then I drink the water. I've only had 3 fills but feel like I'm pretty close to the green zone so there must be something to it. I hope this fill gets you to a good spot.

  5. I would say 0.4 cc's isn't really enough, since you have a 10 cc band. I would think they'd be a little bit more aggressive since you're just starting out. Strange.

  7. Not being banded yet, I can't really comment - but I sure am getting an education from you and from all your comments!

Thank you for all your help! Good luck, and I hope you have restriction!

I average 1,550 calories a day. I'm usually about 1,350 during the week and more on weekends. I exercise every day by walking my dog for at least 30 minutes and I commute by bike several times a week. I usually ride 15-20 miles per week. I also lift free weights a few nights a week while watching TV.
